Walking in Belize

WELCOME TO BELIZE (Sunday May23,2010-Saturday May29,2010)

Belize borders the Caribbean Sea along the eastern shore of Central America just below the Yucatan Peninsula. It is bounded by Mexico from the north and west and by Guatemala on the south. Belize’s culture is a unique blend of various ethnic groups including Spanish, British, and Scottish immigrants. Within this melting pot is a perfect harmony between these respective ethnic groups. There are many entertainment options in Belize. Thus people can have a great time in the country's restaurants, bars and also enjoy its festivals, nightlife and music. The people of Belize love to revel in their grand festivals such as the San Pedro International Costa Maya Festival, Belize Carnival and their own signature International Film Festival.

This week the movie, Sex and the City 2, has made its way to the big screen exciting women all over. Today going to the movies is a big deal; many of us women get all fancy as if we are going to a special event.
So the celebration shouldn’t end at putting on your favorite dress and high heels. Try making a few Caribbean cocktails and pre-movie snacks. Here are some great ideas for you and your friends to get in the mood for some “girly” fun before you meet-up with Carrie, Samantha, Miranda, and Charlotte.
1. Invitations
Set the tone for how fabulous your party is going to be by sending each guest a personalized invitation. See Figure 1.1 for a sampled themed invitation. To design your own invitations visit Mypunchbowl.com. On your invite, encourage guests to arrive in style, because you're pulling all the stops for this fiesta!
2. Decorations
You can really have fun decorating for this type of party. Anything fashion-oriented, glitzy, or pink will work. This Sex and the City Girl’s Night Gift Set (see figure 1.1 for pictures) comes with like show-themed martini glasses, a cocktail shaker, the first movie’s soundtrack and DVD (it is a must you play during your party), and even an exclusive copy of the show’s finale script.
3. Read Gotta Have It: SATC 2 Tote!
Event planner Amy Atlas gave us some great decorating tips that can also be used for this soiree. Don’t forget cute little touches, like these Cocktail Napkins ($5.95, zgallerie.com), this Shoe Bottle Opener ($6.55, partycity.com), and this Empire Votive Candle Centerpiece ($14.99, shindigz.com).
4. Snacks
You might as well indulge and serve a nice Caribbean snack. To spice things up you could serve a very simple corn, black bean, and mango salad, perfect with “scoopable” chips. Or you can even try making a Tropical Fruits with Pistachios & Coconut
5. Cocktails
What would a Sex in the City 2 Party be without cocktails? You can serve up a special drink called The Fashionista, which has a wonderful pomegranate flavor.
And finally Ladies the final step; put on that little black dress and your high heels and enjoy your evening!!! Would love to hear your feedback!!!

Pulse Point “Placencia” Therapy
Placencia is a beautiful peninsula on the Caribbean coast of Belize. Once a sleepy fishing village, Placencia Village has awoken to the sounds of tourism in recent years. Small resorts have sprouted all along the sandy white beaches in this extraordinary paradise. From the colorful homes, to the beautiful palm trees, to the gorgeous sunsets along Placencia’s coast line, I will show you how to bring these fond memories back home and visually translate them into compelling interiors.
• Get your paintbrushes ready and visit Behr.com. Here you will find all sorts of colors that recall your vacation in Placencia. Hues of rambunctious yellows, Caribbean Sea blues, and those that remind you of the sunset can all be found here. These colors can liven up your kitchen, be therapeutic for your bedroom or bath, or draw your guests into an area of entertainment.
• While you can’t bring a palm tree back home (it will never get past customs), you can find some lovely potted palms when you return. Michaels has excellent potted plants for you to choose from.
• Thatched roofs can be seen throughout Placencia Village. These roofs were once common place in Placencia, and can now be commonplace in your backyard; providing excellent shade over a poolside bar area or to cover your patio.
• Stray away from a kaleidoscope interior. Too many colors in too many rooms, and your home will resemble “Romper Room”. The multi-colored building exteriors spell paradise in Placencia, but will translate into Paradise Lost for you. Instead, satisfy your inner color wheel by incorporating lovely bathroom towels or area rugs that will look just as spectacular.
Mature Make-up
(Beauty by: LaShay Jackson May27,2010)
The girls are back! With the release of "Sex and the City 2" women everywhere are rediscovering their love for Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte and Samantha. In this tutorial by Pamela Hackeman, she creates Carrie’s elegant look inspired by the promotional poster from the upcoming film. Actress Sarah Jessica Parker usually has a neutral smoky eye, lots of cheek color, neutral pink lips with a subtle shimmer, and her skin tone is on the bronzed side. Although the model has somewhat different features, her overall style is similar to Carrie Bradshaw’s look.

Take a look at parts 1 & 2 of the Carrie Bradshaw makeup tutorials. We would love to hear your feedback!

Eclectic Circus: Melting Pot Interiors
(Interior Design by: Joseph Allen May26,2010)
A melting pot is defined as an environment in which many ideas and races are socially assimilated. The United States is often cited as a melting pot, but I’ve found that the country of Belize has truly grasped the concept. The Central American country of Belize is a culmination of Mestizo, Kriol, Spanish, Mayan, Garinagu, Mennonite, and East Indian ethnicities. Together, these beautiful cultures have coexisted quite harmoniously. In the world of interior design, this culmination of cultures has its own style -- eclectic. A composition of elements drawn from various sources defines an eclectic setting. “The Cool Hunter”, like Reflection, has combed the globe in order to find unique architecture and interiors (among other neat things) that you can incorporate into your own home. Show your appreciation for the amazing cultures the world has to offer by transforming a monotonous setting into an eclectic work of art. Kimberley Seldon has some fabulous design tips of do’s and don’ts to follow so your space looks eclectically glam and not confusing and “knick-knacky”. Check out these one-of-a-kind interiors below!
